Rethinking the architecture and product information

For many years, the telecommunications sector has developed largely online. Easy and quick access to information is a major issue. In order to offer more autonomy and personalization to its customers and to ensure sustainable growth, the company wanted to review and align its technology with its business needs. With this challenge in mind, we supported the company in its restructuring in terms of architecture and product information.

The first step of this mandate was to analyze the internal processes and to study the flow of information between the site, the ERP, and the different tools. The company’s technological structure had developed over the years according to different needs and was not designed to evolve in the long term. Our team conducted a technical audit and made recommendations in terms of process and technology to effectively simplify their complex architecture and develop a structure capable of supporting future evolutions.

Nowadays, information governance and data exploitation are a key issue for all companies regardless of the sector. The idea is not only to have an overview of these information flows, to protect them via accessibility rules but above all to be able to exploit them. With this in mind, we worked on simplifying and centralizing the data and implementing the Akeneo product information management tool. First of all, a thorough work was done on the data sources, and our team succeeded in streamlining the processes and reducing the information sources by about 90%. This also allowed us to eliminate all operational tasks for product management and transactional processes.

The company offers a complex product structure in the form of a package, the price of which depends on the type of customer (B2C or B2B) and their geolocation. The services, prices and associated promotions are therefore highly personalized and require a well thought out and structured product information management tool to exploit this information. The implementation of the Akeneo PIM has been a major asset in improving the customer experience. It is now possible for each customer, despite a large number of products and parameters, to quickly obtain the personalized price of the services they are looking for.
Simplified processes and improved API connections have also eliminated latency issues. For each customer request, the load time has been reduced from 9 sec to 0.2.

The restructuring and simplification of the architecture as well as the implementation of an adapted product management tool have been real “game changers” for this leader in telecommunications, offering it more simplicity but above all a solid base to propel its growth in the coming years.
